HI, my name is Dan and I am in the process of moving to Australia with my wife Becky and two daughters Nicole (14) and Katelyn (9). Having spent the last 23 years serving in the British Army we have decided to leave the UK, move to Australia and I will be joining the Australian Army.

Embarking on a new life chapter by moving to another country while also joining its Defence Forces is no small feat—it’s a major transformation filled with its own unique challenges and rewards. This blog will share our own experience, closely detailing our journey in real-time. We are now 22 months into a process that has tested our resolve and patience to a whole new level.

The goal here is not just to narrate our story, but to extend a helping hand—to offer guidance and insights to those who are contemplating or are already on the journey to Oz. Moving to Australia and joining the Australian Defence Force (ADF) comes with a series of steps, which can often be complex. I’ll be shedding light on each stage of the process, the obstacles we encountered, and how we navigated through them.
